This is the entry level for any self-respecting make-up lover! Seriously now, I am covering what you need to know in order to master more advanced make-up techniques and make the most of your features.
The Base
A flawless base is possibly one of the most important techniques in the make-up artist’s bag of tricks. In order to achieve a perfect base, there are a few things you must do.
Select the right Foundation shade for your skin
To make it easier, just take the following steps:
1. A very simple and straight forward task. Simply look at your skin, without makeup, in daylight. Now decide which of the following descriptions best represents your skin colour:
A. If your skin looks more Golden Beige, your skin undertone is more a Cool shade.
B. Does your skin looks more Pink Beige? In that case your best foundation tone will be a Warm shade.
2. To classify your skin tone by consider the undertones in your skin. To do this, take a look at the underside of your forearm. Broadly, if your veins look more blue, then you most likely have pinkish undertones. If your veins look more green, then you have more yellow or golden undertones.
3. You may choose to play the undertone of your skin up or play it down by trying a shade that includes or excludes your undertones. If you are wondering why you might want to play the undertone of your skin up or down, simply, if your undertone is very pronounced, it might not be so flattering. Having the ability to “control” skin undertone is rather helpful in this instance.
If your skin looks more Yellow-Golden Olive, you will find those undertones in the Cool foundation shades. If your skin looks more Beige, you will match with the Neutral foundation shades. If your skin looks more Pink, you will find those pink undertones in the Warm foundation shades.
4. Broadly, unless you are undermining or exploring your undertones, the right shade is the one that matches your skin colour exactly. You might have to change your foundation throughout the year as the colour of your skin will change according to the seasons as well as your physical well being.
